Surely it was more steps than that?
so I was walking the streets of bramley from 9-1pm this morning - my pedometer indicated it took me at least 2.5 hours of walking to rack up 10,000 steps.  I find it scary to think that I should be spending 2.5 hours a day walking.  Should I actually assume my pedometer is overly cushioned and not recording a full measure of paces?  Cant work out if my new walking boots require slightly more or slightly less sock than I was wearing as my toenails hurt now too.

10,000 steps is supposed to be about 5 miles. That takes me between an hour and a quarter and an hour and a half at a decent pace - it was easy for me to do when I walked to work, as I lived just over 3 miles from work. Now I have to make a concerted effort.

quick maths says that 10,000 steps in 2 and a half hours is only a little more than one pace every second ... which seems a little slow unless you're really really just meandering

I got my Sixth Formers to monitor their own activity over a week with pedometers.
As part of the investigation, they had to assess the accuracy of the pedometer.
It may not please you to know that they tended to over-estimate by about 20-30%. However, we were using free ones that I picked up from the Tesco pharmacy

Apparently the average step length for a woman is 2.2 feet obviously yours might well be different but using the average you get 10,000 steps * 2.2 feet = 22,000 feet travelled. There are 5,280 feet in a mile and hence 10,000 steps is just over 4 miles. You don't walk that slowly, unless there was a lot of stopping and talking the residents of Bramley going on.
