Ooo excited about the weekend now. I get to see my beloved's band, Rome Burns, eat tasty noodles at Fuji Hiro, go to Friday Flock (yay!!), have exciting visitors including the marmelade menace for the weekend, go to the Slippery Belle Burlesque, play buzz, eat, drink and be merry.

in other news I had to accept the 107k offer - it's not ideal and whereas I think Al's chum's mate may have given me a little more if pushed the chap who used to work at Park Lane is much less likely to mess me about/pull out. Hey if I win a couple of hundred k on the lottery tomorrow I'll take it off the market :)

in other other news - I have oreos.

The Adipose pill.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I have a question!

If it existed and did as indicated in Partners in Crime; would you take Adipose??

A post with an icon wait a pic of an Adipose and the caption "Best. Diet. Ever" inspired this thought.

Cos thinking about it - I totally would. Am I weird??

Edit: I think I should add that I am talking about the way the pill works normally, rather than the accelerated version that kills you dead. Just in case that wasn't obvious :D

Aren't you a little short for a Manager?

We're currently going through our annual assessment at work, using some daft third-party web-app that asks us to rate folks from 1-5 on a over a dozen HR buzzwords-heavy phrases, and then fill in a text box at the end. The text box is then spell-checked and legal-checked. The latter raised warnings about the phrase "short-term", telling me that I should try and avoid criticising people's physical attributes. Presumably the web-app developers were seriously worried about people writing things like

Fred consistently achieves best-of-breed excellence by thinking like an owner and pro-actively seeking out synergistic partnerships to achieve long-term win-win partnerships that are agile enough to cope with changing business circumstances. I would recommend him for promotion, but let's face it he's just too damn short.

As [info]sielis pointed out, if you were worried about folks really thinking like this, surely instead of warning the user that HR suffered form "political correctness gone mad", you'd be better off accepting such the report and then flagging the report with HR as "you appear to be employing a bigoted nutcase"?

Firstly, thanks for all the advise about good comebacks. They were great and I hope to God he never needs to use them.

Secondly, I've yet another question.

My son recently discovered the Badger song and, naturally, he loves it.

He has come up with his own version, which goes: "Doctor, doctor, doctor, doctor, Tardis, Tardis, A DAAAAAALLLLLLEEEEK, DALEK" and so on.

Now, I would have been prepared to bet hard cash that someone out there in the internet world had already created a Doctor Who version of the Badger song, just like that, but I can't seem to find one.

Have any of you ever seen one? And if not, could one of you clever people make one?

Towards a New Usage of Canon in Doctor Who Fandom

[info]uncledark posting in [info]doctorwho

One of the more amusing -- and slightly frustrating -- things that comes up in Doctor Who fandom is canon.  Usually, canon comes up in the form of a question: "Is The Enemy Within considered canon?" or "Is there anything in canon that explains why the Doctor left Gallifrey?"  What's being asked is fairly clear.  It all comes down to a question of orthodoxy, a question of "does this fit into the official/real story of the Doctor?"

SEPTEMBER! not only am i now immersed in the writing of the next comic but, yes, you were warned, it's GUEST STRIP O'CLOCK!

First up, a small but salient contribution from the UK's enfant terrible of the soil-yourself-laughing comics scene, JAMIE SMART! (not that i've asked him ... i should go ask him ...) if you find his comedy stylings as hilarious as i do then you might perhaps not lose out by sellign a kidney and buying his many many comics from, i dunno, tescos or wherever the bastards got them into these days ...

Hove woman chucked out of Jobcentre for feeding toddler

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

24-year-old Samantha Corbridge was looking for work. As she is parent to a young child, she took herself and her two-year-old daughter to the Jobcentre. Reports The Argus:

But while she was there Robyn needed feeding and when Miss Corbridge took out the milk bottle she was asked to leave.

She told The Argus yesterday: “Robyn started crying, I was rocking her pram to try and calm her down.

“The staff told me I must keep her quiet because she was disrupting the other people and we were in a place of work.

“I apologised and said I thought she was hungry.

“I looked through my baby bag to get a bottle I had prepared for her and suddenly a member of staff rushed over and said: ‘You can’t give her that. It’s classed as food and drink so if you want to give it to her you’ll have to leave the premises’.

“As I took the milk off my daughter she started to scream, which made it even more difficult for me to take her outside. I felt humiliated.”

A Jobcentre spokesman has apologised, but surely the damage has been done. Young mothers should not be humiliated or challenged when they go to look for work, and Jobcentres should be set up to welcome and accomodate parents.

Via Harpymarx, who points out:

The rules and regulations are rigid and show no flexibility yet NL [New Labour] want people to find any old job but without giving good proper support especially for people with kids.

So here is a basic incentive, James Purnell, introduce free childcare to help women like Samantha.

3rd Doctor - "Planet of the Daleks"

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Just seen "planet of the daleks" and found it most enjoyable.

i've also been watching from the very first doctor and not been particularly struck by the quality of the stories or each of the first two doctors (or frankly their assistants)

Jon Pertwee on the other hand is proving to be an entertaining doctor and a perfect antidote to the first two who were not to my liking in practically every department.

"planet of the daleks" still stands up as an intelligent and complex story. most of the 3rd Doctor stories were entertaining but Planet is verging on classic IMO. And as an assistant Jo is surely the prototype for all decent assistants?

Executive summary of my life atmo

- off to Newport tomorrow for a 2 hour meeting. This involves 8 hours on a train and a contingency of 2 hours (I hate to be late or miss connections). Sooo a nice 12 hour day for the flexi......

- flying visit by the delicious [info]sendraks today as he was working in Leeds with his soon-to-be-boss. Just enough time for a quick cuddle and then off again. Still, was a nice surprise :)

- found out one of my cousins has suddenly keeled over and died. Not good. Only 34 too. Not terribly close to him, but close enough to know that it's a real shame and he will be missed.

- [info]sendraks's landlord/housemate Jay is visiting for the weekend as he's doing glider training in Thirsk. So if anyone is up for a curry at Agraar on Saturday, give me a shout. Meant to email round, but am utterly rubbish about such things it seems!

So the moral of the tale? Eat curry on Saturday as life is too short not to.
